Atomstroyexport

Atomstroyexport is a leading Russian Company implementing intergovernmental agreements on construction of nuclear power plants abroad. The Company offers a range of services covering the activities from NPP design to decomissioning as well as NPP staff training.
Presently, Atomstroyexport is the only worldwide company constructing simultaneously 5 power units in different countries.
History. The Company was established in 1998 by merger of two large Russian organizations Atomenergoexport and VPO Zarubezhatomenergostroy and the grounds of its activity are the high achievements and powerful potential of entire local nuclear machine building.
The first trial industrial NPPs abroad were built in sixties of the last century in cooperation with USSR in Germany and Czechoslovakia. Ever since the Russian expert have been constructed 30 power units in different countries of the world.
Team. The main Company value is the professional team of Atomstroyexport, which involves over 600 highly qualified experts in the fields of technique as well as in economy, law and finance. In particular, due to their work currently the Company orders amount to about 20 percentages of the worldwide NPP construction market.
Partners. There are up to 300 Russian Partner Companies working at each constructed project. These are acknowledged worldwide science, design and machine building leaders such as Russian Research Center Kurchatov, Gidropress, Moscow and Saint Petersburg Institutes Atomenergoproekt, Group Company Silovye Mashiny, Izhorskie zavody JSC etc.
Also, Atomstroyexport is highly experienced in cooperation with the leading worldwide manufacturers and developers of nuclear power equipment, namely Siemens, Westinghouse, Areva NP, ABB ?tom and some other Companies.
Technologies. The compatibility of Atomstroyexport is based on the application of modern technologies and the state-of-the art elaborations of the Russian scientists and designers. Currently, the Company is in a position to construct nuclear power plants of new generation that are safe both for the human being and the environment.
All projects are implemented within the frameworks of the Governmental programme ?Environmentally Clear Energy Sector? and comply with the Russian norms, modern international requirements and IAEA recommendations as well.
Reactors. «Atomstroyexport» offers Water-Water Power Reactors (VVER) for NPPs that are considered reliable, safe and economically efficient the world over.
The advantage of such type of reactors is proved during the years by the fact of about 1000 reactor year of accident-free operation.
As a most favourable in view of ?price-quality? ratio the experts consider VVER-1000 MW reactors. The power units with VVER-1000 reactors are in operation and under construction in seven countries of the world (Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Czech, China, India, and Iran).
Safety. The projects of Atomstroyexport take into account any ?emergent situations? that could occur during the operation of nuclear power station. Multi-level safety systems are created not allowing the technical failures to evolve into accident. The last innovation in the improved VVER-1000 projects is special ?catcher? designed for interception of core melting located under the reactor body and able to localize the impacts of even hypothetical so-called beyond design accidents.
The double containment of VVER-1000 is able to withstand 8 magnitude earthquake as well as hurricane, outside explosions, floods and even aircraft crash on the reactor.
Projects. One of the current large scale projects of Atomstroyexport is the ?turn key? construction of Tianwan in China, the contract on which was signed in 1997. This is one of the largest projects of economic cooperation between the People?s Republic of China and the Russian Federation. Over 150 Russian organizations took part in the construction of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant. With its unique safety systems it is one of the most modern nuclear power plants nowadays. Presently, the first power unit is constructed and the construction of the second unit will be completed soon.
In 2002 Atomstroyexport commenced construction of Kudankulam NPP in India.
Kudankulam NPP is a new step of the development of NPP projects. This is a power station constructed under the state-of-the art design technologies and having several consecutive safety levels. Over 100 Russian partner organizations are involved in the project implementation.
Russian experts are about to complete the construction of Busher NPP in Iran that has been commenced by the German company Group Siemens. This is a unique example for the integration of the Russian nuclear power technologies into the Western design solutions. The elaborated project for completion will allow Iran to save about 50% of the cost of the integrated equipment. In Bulgaria a modernization of Units 5 and 6 of Kozloduy NPP is under implementation. This power plant has been constructed by the Russian experts allowing Bulgaria to become a leading energy exporter on the Balkans.
Currently, the Company is a Bidder for construction of Units 1 and 2 of Belene NPP in Bulgaria.
The Offer of Atomstroyexport includes 3 variants as follows: construction of Belene NPP using the already supplied equipment and existing civil structures; not using the later as well as an alternative variant a ?nuclear island? to be supplied.
